Weekly Roundup
/I’ve been gravitating towards more color, lately. I struggle with it because I’m afraid of commitment and fear putting it in my own house, yet I love a variety of hues. This room from @graybenko is definitely something I like, but could I ever do mint and pink and red and gold myself?
I’ve been antiquing for all sorts of things lately - rugs, decor, pottery, and clocks. I just got this vintage ceramic clock that I shared on Instagram Stories last night. I thought I’d have to do some repair to it, but someone already converted it from mechanical to a battery operation so it only took me plugging in a rechargeable battery to get it to work. If you’re keen on converting a vintage clock, there’s a bunch of tutorials online, and here’s an adapter. If you’re interested in a similar ceramic clock, click here.
While having the ease of the clock conversion, I was kind of looking forward to trying to learn how to restore an old clock. I’ve been watching so much of The Repair Shop on Netflix in which a group of artisans restore old clocks, woodwork, upholstery, toys, metalwork, and more. I highly recommend the show!! It’s sentimental, educational, and inspiring.
This episode of one of my favorite podcasts was a goodie. Experts discuss the housing crisis, environmental crisis, and how both can be remedied. I appreciated their holistic and social justice perspective.
I’m really excited about this new book from the incredible Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. Learn more about her love of oceans (and share her love) in this episode of Ologies.
The history of zero waste may not be what you think it is.
When I shared the frustrating saga of my kitchen cabinet failure, several of you reached out to say it reminded you of Kim and Scott’s issues at the Two Flat. Ugh, I feel for my dear friends and the issues they’ve endured. Well, I hit yet another big snag in the kitchen renovation that almost broke me and had me questioning my job as a blogger. Stay tuned for that.
So, you want to talk about wildfires?
We watched the new Charlie Kaufman movie, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, and really enjoyed it. The film was unnerving, confusing, troubling, and all-around melancholic and dream-like. A typical Charlie movie! It took us a while to digest it, but we’ve already planned to re-watch it again soon. I recommend it if you’re into long, slow, weird movies.
